Look, I've stayed at my fair share of Brisbane hotels, and The Mowbray genuinely surprised me – in a good way.
Look, I’ve stayed at my fair share of Brisbane hotels, and The Mowbray genuinely surprised me – in a good way. It’s tucked away on Lytton Road in East Brisbane, which honestly isn’t the flashiest address, but that’s actually part of its charm. You’re close enough to the city (maybe 10 minutes by car) without dealing with all the Queen Street Mall chaos, and you can actually get around without wanting to tear your hair out in traffic. The building itself has this sort of understated elegance – not trying too hard to impress, but clearly well-maintained. When I walked into the lobby, it felt… I don’t know, sophisticated but not stuffy? The staff at check-in were genuinely friendly too, not just going through the motions.
What really sold me was the rooftop pool area. Now, Brisbane has plenty of hotels with pools, but most are afterthoughts squeezed into whatever space was left over. This one actually feels like they planned it properly – there’s decent space to spread out, the views aren’t half bad (you can see across to the city skyline), and honestly, it’s where I ended up spending most of my downtime. The gym’s pretty solid too, though nothing fancy – just good equipment that’s actually maintained, which is more than I can say for some pricier places I’ve stayed. And here’s something that’ll matter if you’re driving: the free parking is legitimate free parking, not some sneaky “first hour free” situation. In Brisbane, that’s basically gold.
The rooms themselves hit that sweet spot between comfortable and practical. Mine faced away from the main road, so it was surprisingly quiet at night – I mean, you’ll still hear the occasional car, but nothing that kept me awake. The bed was proper comfortable, and the bathroom had one of those rainfall showerheads that actually has decent pressure (you know the ones I’m talking about – half of them are basically decorative). What I appreciated most was that everything just worked. The aircon didn’t sound like a freight train, the WiFi didn’t cut out every five minutes, and the minibar wasn’t priced like they were selling liquid gold. It’s a 4-star place that earns its rating through consistency rather than flashy gimmicks. The 8.4 rating makes sense when you stay there – it’s not perfect, but it delivers on what it promises without any unpleasant surprises. If you’re looking for something reliable in Brisbane without paying inner-city prices, The Mowbray’s worth considering. Just don’t expect to walk everywhere – you’ll want a car or be comfortable with rideshares to get around properly.

What Our Guests Say
A great new apartment close to the city, ferry, pub and GABBA. New property which has recently been listed. Easy access to city. Upmarket IGA close by. Fantastic rooftop pool and leisure early. Free WiFi.
What could be improved: Deck looks over the apartments in properties behind the complex. No river view except from rooftop pool area.
Good but made to feel uncomfortable Location
New building
What could be improved: We were alerted by the neighbour below that our 2 and 4 year old foot steps were like tiny elephants. We were made to feel uncomfortable after that altercation via the bld intercom. The neighbour was very polite about the situation however she was very distressed as she continues to experience issues like this due to the buildings poor insulation and construction.
Also there was a suitcase found in the cupboard and had the vibe that someone loved there which made my wife feel uncomfortable.
The bed was not made with a fitted sheet for the mattress so the the sheet moved around.
There was no spare sheets found for the fold out couch and it had been known that we had 4 adults and 2 children staying.
Very good Easy instructions checking in but a second key would have been useful.
Gym and pool were great. Rooftop views amazing
What could be improved: Bed was a bit uncomfortable and the acoustics in the building were pretty poor. Could hear noise from neighbouring rooms
Passable The rooftop pool was amazing
What could be improved: Beds were horrible, live in residents below had police there due to domestic at 2am. Then intercomed at 8.30am asking us to not walk around as they could hear and needed to sleep. Same thing the second night.
Exceptional Beautiful apartment. Clean, new and beautiful facilities.
Nice and clean
