So I’ve stayed at The Miro Apartments a few times now, and honestly? It’s become my go-to whenever I need to be in Fortitude Valley. The building sits right on Robertson Street, which – if you don’t know the area – is actually perfect because you’re close enough to all the Valley action but far enough back that you’re not dealing with the Brunswick Street chaos at 2 AM.
The apartments themselves are what I’d call “proper” four-star – not trying to be fancy boutique hotel, just really well-done basics. The kitchens are actually functional (I mean, you can cook a real meal, not just heat up cup noodles), and the bedrooms are quiet even when there’s street activity below. What I really appreciate is that they’ve got proper blackout curtains because, you know what, Brisbane sun is no joke, and if you’re recovering from a night out in the Valley, you’ll thank me for mentioning that. The bathrooms are modern without being sterile – good water pressure, which honestly makes or breaks a stay for me.
Location-wise, you’re literally a five-minute walk to James Street if you’re into that whole upscale dining and shopping thing, but you’re also close to the grittier, more authentic Valley spots that locals actually hang out at. The Wickham Hotel is practically around the corner, and if you walk down to Ann Street, you hit the train station in about eight minutes – I’ve timed it because I’m always running late for flights. Parking can be a bit of a pain during peak times, but there’s usually street parking if you’re willing to walk a block or two, and the building has some spots available though you’ll want to book ahead. The front desk staff are genuinely helpful too – not just polite, but actually knowledgeable about the area. They’ll tell you which restaurants are worth it and which ones are tourist traps, and they’re honest about timing for things like getting to the airport or catching shows at the Fortitude Music Hall. The building itself feels secure without being fortress-like, and the common areas are clean but not overly designed – it’s clear they put money into functionality rather than just looking pretty for Instagram. I’d say the 8.1 rating is pretty spot-on – it’s not going to blow your mind, but it does everything well, and in a city like Brisbane where accommodation can be hit or miss, that consistency matters.
