But actually walking into this three-bedroom setup, I got it. The space really does feel generous, especially by Brisbane standards where you’re usually crammed into shoebox apartments that cost twice as much.

The thing that surprised me most was how quiet it actually is, considering you’re literally a stone’s throw from Sunnybank Plaza. I mean, you can genuinely walk there in under a minute – I timed it because I’m that kind of person – but somehow the street noise doesn’t really penetrate. The bedrooms are laid out smartly too, with the master tucked away from the main living area, which is clutch if you’re traveling with friends who keep different hours. The kitchen’s got everything you’d actually need (not just a sad mini-fridge and microwave situation), and honestly, after eating my weight in dumplings at the plaza, it was nice to come back and make proper coffee in the morning. There’s decent parking too, which anyone who’s driven around Sunnybank during dinner rush will appreciate – that area gets absolutely mental between 6-8pm.

What really sold me on this spot though was the location within the location, if that makes sense. Sure, you’ve got the mall right there with Market Square and all the incredible Asian food (seriously, the laksa at Uncle Bob’s is worth the trip alone), but you’re also perfectly positioned for exploring the rest of Brisbane. I spent one afternoon just wandering the neighborhood – there’s this little Vietnamese bakery on Mains Road that locals queue up at every morning, and the whole area has this lived-in community feel that tourist strips just don’t have. The house itself sits in this pocket of residential calm that feels more like staying at a friend’s place than typical accommodation. Is it fancy? Not particularly – it’s solidly three-star, maybe pushing 3.5 on a good day. But it’s clean, functional, and the beds are actually comfortable (I’m looking at you, every hostel I stayed at in my twenties). The Wi-Fi works properly, there’s decent water pressure, and the air conditioning doesn’t sound like a jet engine. Sometimes that’s exactly what you need.
