Rambla at Story House

Look, I’ve stayed in a lot of Brisbane hotels, and Rambla at Story House on Duke Street actually surprised me. You know how Kangaroo Point can feel a bit disconnected from the action? Well, this place flips that on its head – honestly, the location is brilliant once you realize what you’re working with. You’re literally a two-minute walk to the ferry terminal, which means you can hop across to the city in about five minutes. Way better than dealing with traffic and parking in the CBD, trust me.

The building itself has this interesting warehouse-meets-modern-apartment vibe that somehow works. I mean, Duke Street isn’t the prettiest strip, but once you’re inside, it’s got character without trying too hard. The rooms are properly spacious – not those cramped hotel boxes you usually get – and the kitchenettes are actually useful (I cooked breakfast a couple times, which I never do in hotels). What really got me was the attention to small stuff… decent coffee pods, not those terrible instant sachets, and the shower pressure is honestly fantastic. The beds are firm but comfortable, though if you’re a light sleeper, you might catch some street noise from Duke Street on weekends – nothing major, just the occasional late-night taxi.

Here’s what nobody tells you about this spot: you’re perfectly positioned for the best parts of Brisbane without being stuck in the touristy areas. Captain Burke Park is right there for morning runs with river views, and you’ve got that whole Kangaroo Point Cliffs scene happening – great for sunset drinks if you’re into that. The staff seem to actually know the neighborhood too, which is refreshing. They pointed me toward a little Vietnamese place on Main Street that I never would’ve found otherwise. Parking is included, which saves you about $25 a day compared to city hotels, and check-in was straightforward – none of that “your room isn’t ready but you can wait in our lobby” nonsense. The whole experience just feels more genuine than those big chain places. It’s got that 8.9 rating for good reason – it’s not trying to be fancy, it’s just doing the important stuff really well.
