Look, I’ve stayed at a lot of hotels around Brisbane, and Quest Cannon Hill honestly surprised me in the best way possible. It’s tucked away on Wynnum Road – you know, that stretch where the city starts feeling less frantic and more like actual Brisbane living. I mean, you’re still close enough to everything that matters, but there’s this sense of breathing room that you just don’t get in the CBD.

The first thing that hit me walking in was how they’ve nailed that balance between apartment-style comfort and proper hotel service. The lobby doesn’t try too hard to impress – it’s clean, modern, but not sterile. Check-in was refreshingly straightforward, and the staff actually seemed to know the area well (I asked about the best coffee nearby and got three solid recommendations, not just the usual chain store directions). The rooms are what really sold me though. They’ve got proper kitchenettes – and I’m talking about appliances that actually work, not those sad mini-fridges that hotels usually pass off as “kitchen facilities.” The beds are genuinely comfortable, which sounds basic but you’d be amazed how many places get this wrong. Space-wise, you’re not bumping into furniture every time you turn around, and there’s decent storage if you’re staying more than a night or two.

What I really appreciated was the location’s practicality. You’re about fifteen minutes from the city center, but honestly, that works in your favor. Parking is straightforward – no circling blocks or paying ridiculous fees. There’s a decent shopping center within walking distance for groceries or whatever you’ve forgotten, and the Gateway Motorway access means you can get to the airport or Gold Coast without the usual Brisbane traffic nightmares. Mornings are pretty quiet around there, which was perfect since I’m one of those people who needs proper sleep to function. The area has that residential feel where you can actually hear yourself think, but you’re not stuck in the middle of nowhere.

You know what really impressed me? The attention to practical details. The WiFi actually works consistently (I was working remotely during my stay), the air conditioning doesn’t sound like a jet engine, and the shower pressure is what it should be. These might seem like small things, but they’re the difference between a decent stay and actually wanting to come back. The housekeeping is thorough without being intrusive, and they’ve managed to create that rare hotel atmosphere where you feel comfortable but not like you’re staying at someone’s house. It’s got that 4.5-star rating for good reason – everything just works the way it’s supposed to, without any unnecessary fuss or trying to be something it’s not.
