So I’ve stayed at Queen St Residence a few times now, and honestly, it’s one of those places that grows on you. Walking up to it the first time, I wasn’t blown away by the exterior – it’s pretty understated for a five-star place, tucked into the CBD without much fanfare. But you know what? That actually works in its favor because you’re not paying for flashy lobby marble that you’ll see for all of ten minutes.
The location is genuinely fantastic if you know Brisbane at all. You’re literally in the heart of Queen Street, which means you can stumble to Eagle Street Pier for dinner without calling an Uber, and the Queen Street Mall is right there when you need to grab something (though let’s be honest, it gets pretty hectic during lunch hours). What I really appreciate is how quiet the rooms are despite being smack in the middle of everything – I mean, you’d expect traffic noise all night, but the windows actually do their job. The rooms themselves feel more like serviced apartments than hotel rooms, which is perfect if you’re staying more than a couple nights. There’s proper kitchen facilities, not just a mini-fridge and kettle situation, and the washing machine in the unit is a godsend if you’re doing the whole East Coast thing.
I’ll be straight with you though – the 7.4 rating makes sense when you consider it’s not trying to be the Shangri-La down the road. The service is friendly but not over-the-top attentive, and sometimes the elevators take forever during busy periods. But here’s the thing that keeps me coming back: the value is actually really solid for what you get in this part of town. Parking is available on-site (which is huge in the CBD), and you’re close enough to walk to South Bank when the weather’s decent, or duck into the underground walkways when it’s absolutely bucketing down – and if you’ve spent any time in Brisbane, you know that’s going to happen at least once during your stay. The staff genuinely seems to know the area too, not just the tourist stuff but actual useful information like which coffee shops open early and where to find a decent pharmacy. It’s the kind of place where you feel like you’re living in Brisbane for a bit rather than just passing through, and sometimes that’s exactly what you need.
