You’re in Ascot, which puts you about fifteen minutes from the CBD but – and this is the good part – you’re also ridiculously close to the airport without dealing with all that aircraft noise. I’ve stayed in plenty of “airport hotels” that sound like you’re sleeping on the runway, but here you get the convenience without the constant rumble overhead. Plus, you’re walking distance to some genuinely decent local spots along Nudgee Road that the tourist crowds never find. There’s this little Vietnamese place about three blocks down that locals queue up for on weekends, and honestly, it’s better than half the restaurants in the city center.

The rooms themselves are what you’d expect from a 3.5-star place – clean, functional, with that slightly dated but comfortable feel that screams “we spend money on maintenance, not constant renovations.” The beds are actually pretty decent (I’m picky about mattresses), and the air conditioning works properly, which matters more than you’d think during Brisbane summers. What surprised me was how quiet it gets at night – Nudgee Road can be busy during the day, but once evening hits, it’s genuinely peaceful. The staff seem to know what they’re doing too; check-in was straightforward, and when I had a question about getting to Eagle Farm, the guy at the front desk gave me actual useful directions instead of just pointing at a map. Parking’s included, which saves you twenty-something dollars a day compared to city hotels, and there’s always space – never had to circle around looking for a spot. Look, it’s not going to win any design awards, and if you’re after a fancy rooftop bar or marble bathrooms, this isn’t your place. But if you want somewhere reliable that won’t eat your budget, with genuine local access and staff who seem to actually work there rather than just passing through, the Ascot Budget Inn delivers on what it promises.
