Zen Escape Guest House “Location 3” – Hidden Gem, Funky Corner, Boutique Granny Flat
Look, I've stayed in my fair share of Brisbane accommodations, and Zen Escape Guest House is one of those places that actually lives up to its name – which, honestly, doesn't happen as often as you'd think.
Look, I’ve stayed in my fair share of Brisbane accommodations, and Zen Escape Guest House is one of those places that actually lives up to its name – which, honestly, doesn’t happen as often as you’d think. Tucked away on Clewitt Street (and I mean really tucked away, you’ll probably walk past it the first time), this little granny flat conversion has this wonderfully quirky vibe that somehow manages to be both bohemian and genuinely relaxing. The owner clearly has a thing for eclectic décor – think vintage furniture mixed with local artwork and plants everywhere, but not in that try-hard Instagram way. It’s more like staying at your cool aunt’s place, if your cool aunt happened to have excellent taste and knew how to make guests feel welcome.
What really got me was the attention to detail that you don’t expect from a 3-star place. The bed was actually comfortable (you know how rare that is in boutique spots), and they’d thought about the little things – proper reading lights, enough power outlets, a decent coffee setup. The bathroom’s compact but well-designed, with one of those rainfall showerheads that actually works properly. Parking was surprisingly easy too, which anyone who’s driven around Brisbane’s inner suburbs will appreciate. The location itself is brilliant if you know the area – you’re a quick walk to the Breakfast Creek Hotel (locals know), and the Gateway Motorway access means you can get to the airport or Gold Coast without dealing with city traffic. I stayed during a particularly busy weekend when everything else was booked solid, and while I could hear some street noise early in the morning, it wasn’t the kind that keeps you awake.
The thing that really sets this place apart is that it feels genuine – there’s no corporate polish trying to hide corners that were cut. Instead, you get this authentic Brisbane experience where someone clearly cares about their property and their guests. The check-in was refreshingly personal (none of that sterile hotel lobby stuff), and they actually gave useful local recommendations that weren’t just the obvious tourist traps. It’s not luxury by any stretch, but it’s exactly what it claims to be: a peaceful little escape that happens to be perfectly positioned for exploring Brisbane without the city center chaos. For the price point, especially considering how expensive Brisbane accommodation has gotten lately, it’s honestly a steal. You’re paying for character and comfort, not fancy amenities you probably won’t use anyway.

What Our Guests Say
Exceptional Close to airport without having to go into busy city. Quiet suburb. Homely character and a yard..good for pets. Peaceful and clean. Everything you need and nothing you don’t. Staff communicate well, are always available and kind.
Disappointing Way to expensive for what was offered. Plus $60 cleaning fees for one room, and an extra $50 for a pet for extra cleaning. Way over priced.
What could be improved: The price comparison to what was offered elsewhere.
Very good The location was great. We were there for a show at the entertainment centre and it was minutes away. It was perfect for our needs.
What could be improved: We could hear people walking around in the next unit even though there's some distance between them.
Stylish fun relaxing adventure Clean & great styling
What could be improved: Nothing
Quaint and clean little cottage Very cute little cottage with all the amenities. Plates, glasses, fridge, kitchenette, WIFI (we didn’t use) and covered parking.
The bathroom is renovated, beautiful white and brand new.
The queen bed in the bedroom was very soft and comfortable, with a few pillows to choose from.
What could be improved: It is very tiny, so it wouldn’t be good for a long stay, but great for an overnighter.
Very very average . Location
What could be improved: Very old minimum furniture
Very small
Tap in bathroom on full but only had a trickle of water . Had to wash our hands and my husband had to shave in the tiny Kitcken .
Very small tv
We rented because my daughter was near by. Our dog couldn’t be left outside as their where no gates
Perfect stay for a short time Had everything I needed and more very clean neat little place
What could be improved: Nothing I didn’t like
I liked it very much
Superb Close to shops, close to where we was going for the night.
What could be improved: I think it way over priced ,think yard could do with a good tidy up ..
Quiet and perfect I loved how clean and set out everything way
What could be improved: Nothing I loved everything
Superb Clean comfortable, had everything we needed for our family and our dog.
What could be improved: When booking through booking.com I didn't get information about which granny flat we were in or an accurate pin code for the key. So I had to call the owner to get the information. Also very easy to hear the neighbours through the wall.
