The rooms are genuinely well-kept (that 4-star rating isn’t just for show), and I was honestly impressed by how quiet everything was at night. You’d think being this close to the water might mean dealing with early morning boat traffic or whatever, but it’s actually pretty peaceful. The owners clearly know what they’re doing – check-in was smooth, parking is right there without any drama, and the whole place has this clean, no-fuss feel that just works. What really got me though was how they’ve managed to keep that old-school motel charm without it feeling dated or run-down. The rooms smell fresh, not like that weird industrial cleaning stuff you get in chain places, and honestly, the beds are comfortable enough that I didn’t wake up feeling like I’d been wrestling with a mattress all night.

Here’s the thing about staying in Wynnum – and this is something you won’t really get unless you’ve spent time around Brisbane’s bayside suburbs – you’re actually in a pretty sweet spot. It’s not touristy in that overwhelming way, but you’ve got the esplanade literally a few minutes away, and if you’re into that whole relaxed coastal thing without the Surfers Paradise madness, this area just hits different. The motel itself sits in this pocket where you can walk to decent coffee (there’s a place on Bay Terrace that locals actually go to), and you’re close enough to the water that you can actually hear it on quiet evenings. Plus, getting back into the city isn’t a nightmare – the train line runs right through Wynnum, so you’re not stuck out here if you want to head into Brisbane proper. I’d definitely stay here again, especially for the price point and that 8.5 rating makes total sense once you’re actually there. It’s one of those places that just does the basics really well without trying to be something it’s not.
