Wow Bridge views Near CBD Quiet bus train

You know what?

You know what? I wasn’t expecting much when I first pulled up to this place on McIlwraith Avenue – I mean, the name alone sounds like someone threw every keyword they could think of into a blender. But honestly, they weren’t kidding about those bridge views. The moment you step into certain rooms, there’s this gorgeous sight line straight to the Gateway Bridge that actually made me pause mid-unpack. It’s one of those views that changes throughout the day, and I found myself checking it out during my morning coffee and again when the lights came on at dusk.

The location is actually pretty clever if you know Brisbane at all. You’re in Norman Park, which feels residential and quiet – like, genuinely quiet, not hotel-brochure quiet – but the CBD is maybe fifteen minutes away if you hop on the train at Norman Park station. I walked there in about eight minutes, and the buses run along Old Cleveland Road pretty regularly too. What I really appreciated was the parking situation – there’s space, and you’re not dealing with the nightmare of city parking rates or having to circle blocks looking for a spot. The whole area has this lived-in feel where actual people go about their business, grab groceries, walk their dogs. It’s refreshing after staying in those sterile hotel districts where everything closes at 6 PM.

The hotel itself is solidly three-star – nothing fancy, but everything works and it’s clean. I mean, you can tell it’s not brand new, but someone’s clearly putting effort into maintaining it. The staff at check-in were actually helpful (not just going through the motions), and when I asked about the best way to get to South Bank, the guy behind the desk gave me specific platform numbers and mentioned which carriage to get on for the easiest exit. Those little details matter when you’re figuring out a new city. The rooms are comfortable enough – decent bed, reliable WiFi, and that view I mentioned. The bathroom’s compact but functional, and honestly, the water pressure was better than some four-star places I’ve stayed. There’s a bit of traffic noise from Cleveland Road during peak hours, but it dies down in the evenings, and if you’re someone who needs complete silence, just ask for a room facing away from the main road. The 8.9 rating makes sense – it’s not trying to be something it isn’t, but it delivers on what it promises. For the price point and the easy access to both the city and the airport (you can catch the train straight through), it’s actually a pretty smart choice, especially if you want to stay somewhere that feels more like Brisbane and less like Generic Hotel City.

The location and facility were great. Our host allowed us to check in early which was a life saver as our son had a doctors appointment at the Brisbane Children's Hospital. This allowed our other children to settle in to the property and not be stuck in a hospital waiting room.
