The Villa on Shire – Comfort near Coorparoo Square
You know what?
You know what? I wasn’t expecting much when I first pulled up to The Villa on Shire – honestly, the name made me think it’d be trying too hard to be fancy. But this place actually surprised me in the best way possible. It’s tucked away on a quiet residential street, which means you’re not dealing with the usual city hotel chaos, but you’re still just a quick stroll from Coorparoo Square when you need groceries or want to grab coffee at one of those little cafes.
The building itself has this relaxed, almost home-like vibe that’s hard to find in Brisbane hotels. I mean, it’s definitely a 4-star place – the rooms are spacious and everything works properly (you’d be amazed how rare that is sometimes) – but there’s something refreshingly unpretentious about it. The staff actually seem to know the neighborhood, which is gold when you’re trying to figure out where to eat or whether it’s worth walking to the train station versus calling an Uber. Speaking of which, parking here is actually decent – there’s proper guest parking, not those nightmare tiny spots you get squeezed into at most Brisbane hotels. The rooms are genuinely comfortable too, with proper blackout curtains (lifesaver if you’re jet-lagged) and air conditioning that doesn’t sound like a freight train. I stayed during one of those sticky February weeks, and honestly, I slept better here than I do at home most nights.
What really sold me on this place is how it feels like you’re staying in an actual Brisbane neighborhood rather than some tourist bubble. You’ll hear the morning birds instead of traffic, and there’s something really nice about walking past actual houses and seeing people walking their dogs instead of just endless commercial strips. The Coorparoo area itself is sort of having a moment – it’s got that inner-city convenience without the ridiculous prices you’d pay closer to the CBD. Plus, if you’re into food (and let’s be honest, who isn’t?), you’re perfectly positioned to explore both the local spots and hop on transport to the trendy areas without breaking the bank on accommodation. The 8-star rating feels about right – it’s not going to blow your mind with luxury, but it delivers exactly what you want: a clean, comfortable base that doesn’t feel like every other cookie-cutter hotel. I’d definitely stay here again, especially if I wanted to experience Brisbane more like a local than a tourist.

What Our Guests Say
My stay was very pleasant and only a few minutes drive away for my family to pop over and pick me up when going out for I liked the spaciousness and the fact that there was outdoor seating area downstairs and upstairs. Close to bus stop for city and Carindale shopping mall. Very quiet and pleasant.
What could be improved: Lounge area was very cold at night as were the bedrooms, although the oil filled radiators helped enormously upstairs. As a solo traveler I was disappointed with TV as there were no streaming channels and very little choice to watch in evening.
