The New Farm Collection
You know what caught me off guard about The New Farm Collection?
You know what caught me off guard about The New Farm Collection? Walking in, I wasn’t expecting much from the exterior – it’s pretty understated along the streetfront – but the lobby actually has this warm, collected feel that makes sense of the name. Not stuffy-fancy, just thoughtfully put together with pieces that look like someone curated them over time rather than ordering everything from a hotel furniture catalog.
The location is honestly perfect if you want to feel like you’re staying in an actual Brisbane neighborhood instead of some tourist bubble. You’re right in the heart of New Farm, which means you can walk to the weekend markets at the powerhouse (seriously, go early before it gets packed), and there’s this great little strip of cafes and restaurants along Brunswick Street that locals actually frequent. I mean, you’re maybe a 10-minute walk from the river, and the CityCat stops are close enough that getting into the city center is no drama at all. What I really appreciated was how quiet it stays at night – New Farm has this residential vibe that a lot of inner-city Brisbane spots have lost.
The rooms feel more like staying in a well-appointed apartment than a typical hotel room, which I guess fits the whole “collection” concept they’re going for. Mine had this little kitchenette setup that was actually functional (not just for show), and the bed was one of those where you sink in just enough without feeling like you’re being swallowed. Honestly, the bathroom was a standout – rainfall shower with decent water pressure, which you can’t always count on. The only thing that bugged me was the air conditioning unit, which worked fine but made this low humming sound that took me a night to get used to. Check-in was smooth, and the staff seemed to know the area well when I asked about dinner recommendations – they steered me toward this Vietnamese place on James Street that I never would have found otherwise.
Look, it’s not going to blow your mind with flashy amenities or over-the-top service, but that’s sort of the point. The New Farm Collection feels like what a 4-star hotel should be – comfortable, well-located, and unpretentious. The 8.3 rating makes sense to me; it’s the kind of place that does the fundamentals really well without trying to be something it’s not. If you’re the type who wants to explore Brisbane like someone who actually lives here, rather than just hitting the obvious tourist spots, this is your base. Plus, parking is included, which honestly saves you a headache in this part of town.

What Our Guests Say
Exceptional
Lovely, cruisey and stylish It had every facility and appliance imaginable. Really stylish. Big sunny windows and a nice pool.
What could be improved: I nearly had a heart attack trying to get the key out of the box. You have lean over a pole and nearly broke my fingers.
Superb
Not what we were expecting Nice apartment in a good location
What could be improved: The apartment has been rented out with a broken sliding door which means there is no toilet/shower door directly onto the lounge area = not good!
This really needs to be fixed before any further rentals. Fix the door and everything is fine.
