The Lamu Suite
The Lamu Suite
Honestly, I wasn't expecting much when I first pulled up to The Lamu Suite on Bridge Street – it's tucked into this quieter stretch where you don't get the river views but also don't deal with the tourist crowds that mob the South Bank area.
Honestly, I wasn’t expecting much when I first pulled up to The Lamu Suite on Bridge Street – it’s tucked into this quieter stretch where you don’t get the river views but also don’t deal with the tourist crowds that mob the South Bank area. But you know what? Sometimes the best finds are the ones hiding in plain sight.
The moment you step inside, there’s this immediately calming vibe that’s hard to pin down. Maybe it’s the way they’ve done the lighting (warm, not harsh like so many hotels get wrong), or how the lobby actually feels like a space you’d want to hang out in rather than just rush through. The staff genuinely seem to know what they’re doing too – check-in was smooth, and when I mentioned I was in town for a conference, they automatically offered to print my boarding pass for the next day. Small thing, but it matters. The rooms themselves are what I’d call thoughtfully designed rather than flashy. The bed is properly comfortable (and I’m picky about mattresses), there’s enough space to actually unpack if you’re staying more than a night, and the bathroom has decent water pressure – honestly, why is that so rare? I loved that they included a proper coffee setup, not just those tragic little pods you get in most places.
What really won me over was the location once I started exploring. Yeah, you’re about a ten-minute walk from the main action along the Brisbane River, but that means you’re also right in the heart of where actual locals eat and drink. There’s this fantastic little Vietnamese place literally around the corner that I never would have found if I’d stayed in the touristy zones, and the coffee shop two blocks down (on the corner of Bridge and… I think it was Tribune Street?) serves the kind of flat whites that make you understand why Australians are so particular about their coffee. Plus, if you’re driving, street parking is actually manageable in this area – during the day you’ll need to pay, but evenings and weekends are free, which saved me a fortune compared to hotel parking rates.
The only minor downside is that rooms facing the street can get a bit of traffic noise in the mornings, but honestly, it’s Brisbane city center so that’s pretty much unavoidable anywhere. And if you’re someone who needs to be right in the thick of things, the walk to Queen Street Mall or the botanical gardens might feel like a trek (though I found it pleasant enough). The 8.6 rating makes total sense to me – it’s not trying to be luxury, but it absolutely nails what a solid four-star should be. Clean, comfortable, well-located, and run by people who actually care about hospitality rather than just going through the motions. I’d definitely stay here again, and I’m already planning to recommend it to my sister when she visits next month.

What Our Guests Say
Great rooms, furniture and appliances. Owners of the property were incredibly friendly and even gifted me a jar of homegrown honey on top of letting me use their e-bike to get around town. I had a great time in Brisbane staying here.
Unit is nicely fitted out and airconditioned, suitable for a couple. Homemade honey, muesli and milk were provided. Close to UQ. Friendly hosts (including dog).
Hosts were very nice and helpful. Good supply of milk, tea, and breakfast cereal.
The husband Zeke was helpful over the phone with the several things I had to call him about. I never met him as he was away. I'm not sure why his wife didn't attend to the booking questions but that's ok.
The flat while unexpectedly old and rustic (I thought it was newer and modern, guess it's hard to tell by the photos) was rather nice in an old fashioned rustic way and fairly well equipped. Enjoyed provided muesli.
Had a good bed.
Great hot shower.
Beautiful sweet dog who's very hungry for love and attention.
Friendly and helpful host.
It’s back from the road and private, seems almost rural. It has a good yard for my dogs and their dog is delightful. The hosts are friendly but also give you your privacy. The Suite is very nice and value for money
Gorgeous suite with everything you need. Great host - very responsive and made us feel welcome.
Lovely little unit, beautifully decorated, clean and comfortable. Location was quiet for that part of the city. The landlords were friendly and helpful. The honey from their own bees was a lovely touch. We would definitely stay again.
