You know what caught me off guard about St Tropez? The name had me expecting some over-the-top French riviera wannabe, but honestly, this place gets Brisbane CBD just right. Walking up Ann Street, you’ll spot it easily enough – there’s this understated elegance that doesn’t try too hard, which I actually appreciated after staying at some of the flashier places around town.

The location is brilliant, and I mean that in the most practical way possible. You’re literally a three-minute walk from Queen Street Mall, but here’s the thing – you’re just far enough up Ann Street that you don’t get the weekend crowds stumbling past your window at 2 AM. I stayed on a Thursday through Sunday and was pleasantly surprised by how quiet it stayed, even with the windows cracked open. The parking situation is what you’d expect for CBD – there’s valet service, but honestly, if you’re planning to explore the city properly, you’ll barely need your car anyway. Central Station is close enough that you can hear the trains if you really listen, but it’s more of a gentle urban hum than anything disruptive.

What really sells this place is the attention to detail that you don’t notice until you’ve been there a day or two. The lobby has this warm, lived-in feeling – not sterile like some four-star chains, but not trying to be boutique-quirky either. Check-in was smooth, no drama, and the staff actually seemed to know the area when I asked about decent coffee spots nearby (they pointed me toward a little place on Edward Street that turned out to be perfect). The rooms themselves are well thought out – I mean, someone actually considered how you’d live in the space, not just how it would photograph. The bathroom had proper water pressure, the bed was firm enough without being a brick, and there were enough power outlets that I didn’t have to choose between charging my phone and using the bedside lamp. Small things, sure, but they add up when you’re traveling for work or trying to actually relax on vacation.

The 8.5 rating makes sense when you experience the place – it’s not trying to be the most Instagram-worthy spot in Brisbane, but it delivers on the fundamentals while adding just enough personality to feel special. I’d definitely stay here again, especially if I wanted to be in the heart of things without paying the premium for river views or feeling like I’m sleeping in a corporate conference center. It’s the kind of place where you settle in after the first night and think, “Yeah, this works.”
