When I first walked in, it felt like someone’s actual home rather than one of those sterile rental units – you know what I mean? I mean, you’re literally a ten-minute walk to the river and all those boardwalk cafes, but here’s the thing most people don’t realize – Merivale Street itself is pretty quiet, especially at night. No drunk tourists stumbling around like you get closer to the city center. The building’s got that slightly older Brisbane vibe (nothing fancy, but solid), and honestly, the apartment gets great cross-ventilation, which matters more than you’d think during those sticky summer months. I kept the air con off most evenings just opening the windows.

The kitchen’s actually functional – I cooked breakfast most mornings and even made dinner a couple times. There’s a decent grocery store about five minutes away, and if you’re into that whole artisanal coffee scene, well, you’re in the right neighborhood. The bed was comfortable enough that I didn’t wake up with a sore back, which has definitely happened in other places. Parking was straightforward too, though I should mention that if you’re driving during peak hours, getting in and out of South Brisbane can be a bit of a pain – but that’s Brisbane traffic for you. What I loved most was being able to walk to the Cultural Centre and South Bank without dealing with public transport, but still feeling like I was staying somewhere with actual neighborhood character rather than tourist central. The 8.2 rating makes sense – it’s not trying to be luxury, but it delivers on the basics really well, and the location gives you that perfect balance of being close to everything without being right in the thick of it.
