Look, I’ll be honest with you – when I first pulled up to Riverfront Residences New Farm, I wasn’t expecting much from a 3-star place. But you know what? Sometimes the best finds are the ones that surprise you without trying too hard.

The location is actually pretty brilliant if you know Brisbane at all. You’re right in New Farm, which means you can walk to the powerhouse arts precinct in about ten minutes (I timed it), and there’s this lovely riverside path that locals use for their morning jogs. The apartments themselves are nothing fancy – think clean, functional spaces with that slightly generic modern furniture you see everywhere now – but the views make up for it. I mean, when you wake up and see the Brisbane River doing its thing below, you sort of forget about the basic kitchen setup. The balconies are decent sized too, which is rare these days. I spent most evenings out there with a coffee, watching the CityCats cruise by. There’s something oddly relaxing about the gentle hum of river traffic that you don’t get in the city center hotels.

What really sold me on this place was the neighborhood vibe. New Farm has this relaxed, slightly artsy feel that’s hard to find in bigger cities – you’ve got proper cafes (not just chain stuff) within walking distance, and the weekend farmers market at the powerhouse is honestly one of the better ones I’ve been to. The staff here seem to actually live in Brisbane, which sounds obvious but isn’t always the case. They pointed me toward this little Vietnamese place on Brunswick Street that I never would have found otherwise. Parking was surprisingly painless too – they’ve got an underground garage that doesn’t make you feel like you’re playing automotive Tetris. The only real downside I noticed was that the walls aren’t exactly soundproof, so if you’re a light sleeper and your neighbors are early risers, you’ll know about it. But honestly, for the price point and that river access, it’s a pretty solid choice if you want to experience Brisbane like someone who actually lives here rather than just passing through on the tourist trail.
