The Experience

River Glow at Queens Wharf Level 43

Look, I've stayed at plenty of places in Brisbane's CBD, but River Glow at Queens Wharf Level 43 genuinely caught me off guard – in the best possible way.

Look, I’ve stayed at plenty of places in Brisbane’s CBD, but River Glow at Queens Wharf Level 43 genuinely caught me off guard – in the best possible way. When you’re taking that elevator up to the 43rd floor on Margaret Street, honestly, you’re not quite prepared for what hits you when those doors open. The views are absolutely ridiculous – I mean, you’re literally looking down at the Brisbane River snaking through the city, and on a clear day you can see all the way out to Moreton Bay. The whole Queens Wharf precinct is buzzing below you, but up here it’s this weird peaceful bubble above all the construction and casino energy.

What actually impressed me most wasn’t just the height though – it’s how they’ve done the interiors. The rooms have this clean, modern thing going on without feeling sterile, you know? Floor-to-ceiling windows that make you feel like you’re floating above the city, and the beds are honestly some of the most comfortable I’ve encountered (I’m picky about mattresses, so that’s saying something). The bathroom setup is smart too – separate shower and bath, decent water pressure, and they’ve got those little touches like proper hangers and enough power outlets where you actually need them. You can hear the faint hum of the city below, but it’s more ambient than annoying, especially at night when all the lights come on and Brisbane turns into this glittering sprawl beneath you.

Here’s the thing though – location-wise, you’re right in the thick of everything but also sort of removed from it. Treasury Casino is practically next door, South Bank is a quick walk across the bridge, and if you want to hit up Eagle Street Pier for dinner, it’s maybe ten minutes on foot. The whole Queens Wharf development means there’s always something happening downstairs, but parking can be a bit of a puzzle if you’re driving – I’d honestly recommend just using the train or grabbing an Uber. Check-in was smooth, staff actually seemed to know the area well when I asked about restaurants (they steered me toward some great spots on James Street I wouldn’t have found otherwise), and the 4-star rating feels right – it’s polished without being stuffy. I stayed during a weekday in winter and it was perfectly quiet, though I imagine weekend nights might get a bit livelier with all the entertainment venues nearby. The only minor gripe? The air conditioning can be a bit aggressive, but that’s pretty standard for high-rise hotels. Bottom line – if you want to feel like you’re staying in the sky while still being walking distance from Brisbane’s best bits, this place delivers on that promise.
