The Experience

Ridge Apartment Hotel

You know what caught me off guard about Ridge Apartment Hotel?

You know what caught me off guard about Ridge Apartment Hotel? It’s actually got more personality than you’d expect from a place that sounds so… well, apartment-y. I mean, it literally is apartment-style accommodation, but there’s something refreshingly honest about how they’ve set it up on Leichhardt Street. The building’s got that solid, no-nonsense Brisbane character – not trying to be fancy, just doing its job really well.

The location is honestly one of those “locals know” spots that works perfectly if you understand Spring Hill. You’re basically perched above the city center without being stuck in the tourist madness down on Queen Street. There’s this great little coffee place about two blocks down that the hotel staff actually recommended (and they were right – proper flat whites), and you can walk to the Botanic Gardens in about fifteen minutes if you don’t mind a bit of a hill. The street itself is pretty quiet at night, which surprised me because you’re still close enough to hear the city humming below. Parking’s not terrible either – there’s a spot out back, though I’d ask about it when you book because it fills up.

What I really appreciated was how the rooms feel like actual living spaces rather than hotel boxes. The kitchenette isn’t just for show – you’ve got a proper fridge, decent counter space, and cookware that doesn’t look like it’s been through a war. The couch actually seats two people comfortably (revolutionary concept, I know), and there’s enough storage that you’re not living out of your suitcase the whole time. The bathroom’s a bit snug, but honestly, the water pressure’s better than half the flashier places I’ve stayed in Brisbane. Air conditioning works well too, which matters when you’re dealing with those sticky Queensland summers. I will say the Wi-Fi can be a bit patchy in some rooms – nothing terrible, but don’t expect to run your entire business from there. The 3.5-star rating feels about right; it’s not luxury, but it’s thoughtfully done and the staff genuinely seem to care about making sure things work properly. If you’re planning to actually spend time in Brisbane rather than just collapse in your room each night, this place gives you a proper base without the premium price tag.

The bed was comfortable and the bathroom and laundry were OK. The washing machine was too high to put the laundry powder in the machine so a stool or chair was needed to facilitate this.
