Newstead Towers
Newstead Towers
You know what?
You know what? I was honestly skeptical when I first pulled up to Newstead Towers – the name made me think it was going to be some stuffy corporate place, but I was completely wrong. This 4-star spot in Newstead is actually one of those gems that locals probably don’t want tourists finding out about. The building itself has this solid, understated presence that fits right into the neighborhood without trying too hard, and when you walk into the lobby, there’s immediately this sense that someone actually thought about making guests comfortable rather than just impressed.
The location is what really sold me though. Newstead’s got this perfect balance where you’re close enough to the city that you can see the Brisbane skyline across the river, but you’re tucked away from all the tourist chaos in the CBD. I mean, you can walk to Gasworks Plaza in about ten minutes if you need groceries or want to grab coffee somewhere that isn’t hotel-priced, and the Teneriffe ferry terminal is right there when you want to cruise into the city without dealing with parking – which, let’s be honest, is a nightmare in Brisbane. The staff actually knew the ferry schedule off the top of their heads, which tells you they get asked about it a lot and care enough to have real answers. What surprised me most was how quiet it gets at night, even though you’re technically in the middle of everything. The rooms face different directions, so I’d ask for one overlooking the courtyard if you’re a light sleeper, though honestly the street noise wasn’t bad even on the river side.
The whole experience just felt… effortless, I guess? Check-in was quick without being rushed, the room was ready early (always a good sign), and everything worked the way it should – you know how rare that is these days. The beds are legitimately comfortable, not just hotel-comfortable, and the bathrooms have that perfect water pressure that makes you want to stay in the shower forever. I noticed they’d stocked local coffee in the room, which sounds like a small thing but it’s those details that show they’re paying attention. The rating of 10 might seem too perfect, but after staying there, I get it. It’s not trying to be flashy or over-the-top – it’s just really, really good at being exactly what you need. If you’re coming to Brisbane and want to feel like you’re staying somewhere that locals would actually recommend rather than just tolerate, this is your spot.
