Mary Suites Brisbane sits right in the heart of the CBD, and honestly, when I first walked in, I wasn’t expecting much from the lobby – it’s pretty understated compared to some of the flashier places along Queen Street. But you know what? That actually turned out to be refreshing. The staff at check-in were genuinely helpful (not just going through the motions), and they knew their stuff about the neighborhood without trying to oversell everything.
The suites themselves are where this place really shines. I mean, you’re getting proper apartment-style living with a kitchen that’s actually functional – not one of those sad hotel kitchenettes with a broken can opener. The space feels lived-in rather than sterile, which I loved. My suite overlooked the city toward the river, and mornings were pretty spectacular with the light hitting the water. The beds are solid – firm but not rock-hard – and the air conditioning actually works quietly, which matters more than you’d think when you’re trying to sleep in Brisbane’s humid nights. One small thing though: the shower pressure could be better, but it’s not a dealbreaker.
What really sold me on this place was how easy it made exploring the city. You’re literally a five-minute walk to the Queen Street Mall, and South Bank is just across the Victoria Bridge – I found myself wandering over there most evenings because it felt so close. The botanical gardens are right there too, perfect for morning runs if that’s your thing. Parking can be tricky in the CBD (it always is), but they’ve got arrangements with nearby garages that won’t completely destroy your budget. The neighborhood gets pretty quiet after business hours, which some people love and others might find a bit dead – depends what you’re after, I guess. For me, it meant I could actually get some sleep before heading out to Fortitude Valley or West End for dinner. There’s a decent coffee shop literally next door that opens early, and the Queen Street Mall food court is close enough when you need quick, cheap eats. It’s not the fanciest four-star you’ll find in Brisbane, but it’s honest about what it is – comfortable, well-located, and run by people who seem to actually care about making your stay work.
