Look, I've stayed at my fair share of Brisbane hotels, and MacArthur Chambers actually surprised me – in a good way.
Look, I’ve stayed at my fair share of Brisbane hotels, and MacArthur Chambers actually surprised me – in a good way. The building itself has this old-school charm you don’t see much anymore, sitting right there on Edward Street where you can literally walk to Queen Street Mall in about three minutes. I mean, the location alone is worth talking about because you’re basically in the heart of everything without being stuck in one of those massive, impersonal tower hotels that make you feel like cattle.
What really got me was how they’ve managed to keep the heritage feel without making it feel dated, you know? The rooms have these high ceilings that make even the smaller spaces feel generous, and honestly, the beds are proper comfortable – not too soft, not too firm. I stayed on the fifth floor and it was surprisingly quiet for being smack in the CBD, though you’ll still hear the occasional delivery truck early morning if you’re a light sleeper. The staff at check-in were genuinely helpful too, not just going through the motions. They pointed me toward Treasury Casino when I mentioned wanting a decent coffee at odd hours, which showed they actually know the neighborhood.
Here’s the thing though – this isn’t your flashy five-star setup, and that’s kind of the point. It’s more like what a really good boutique hotel should be: thoughtful without being pretentious. The bathroom products were actually decent quality, there’s proper water pressure in the shower, and they’ve got that split-system air con that actually works (trust me, you’ll appreciate that in Brisbane summer). Parking is valet only, which runs about $35 a night, but honestly, trying to find street parking around there is a nightmare anyway. The Heritage Bar downstairs is worth checking out if you’re into cocktails – they know what they’re doing behind that bar, and it’s got this intimate vibe that’s perfect for winding down after walking around the city all day. You’re also a stone’s throw from the Botanic Gardens, which I stumbled upon during my morning run and ended up spending way more time there than planned. For the price point and the location, MacArthur Chambers hits that sweet spot where you feel like you’re getting good value without any nasty surprises on checkout.
