You know what caught me off guard about Hotel X Brisbane? It’s actually got this industrial-chic thing going on that somehow works perfectly in Fortitude Valley. I mean, the Valley’s always been this gritty, artsy neighborhood, and this place leans into that vibe instead of trying to be some sterile five-star box. The moment you walk in, there’s this exposed brick and steel thing happening, but it’s polished enough that you feel like you’re somewhere special.

The location is honestly brilliant if you know Brisbane at all. You’re right on Brunswick Street – and I’m talking about the good part where all the interesting stuff happens. You can walk to Chinatown Mall in about three minutes (perfect for those late-night dumpling runs), and The Tivoli is literally around the corner if you’re into live music. What I really appreciated was how quiet it stays inside despite being in the middle of everything. The rooms face different directions, and even the street-facing ones have decent sound insulation. Actually stayed there during Valley Fiesta once, and while the street was absolutely mental, I could barely hear it from the eighth floor.

The rooms themselves are pretty clever – they’ve got this whole urban loft aesthetic with concrete features and floor-to-ceiling windows that make even the standard rooms feel spacious. The beds are seriously comfortable (I’m picky about this stuff), and the bathrooms have those rainfall showers that actually work properly. Little touches too, like the local coffee beans in the minibar and artwork from Brisbane artists. Check-in was smooth, though I’d recommend booking parking ahead of time because street parking in the Valley can be a nightmare, especially on weekends. The staff actually know the area well – they pointed me toward some hidden laneway bars I never would’ve found otherwise. It’s got that 8.6 rating for good reason; it’s not trying to be everything to everyone, but what it does, it does really well. If you want to be in the thick of Brisbane’s nightlife and culture scene but still have a proper place to retreat to, this spot gets it right.
