Look, I’ll be honest – when I first pulled up to the Everton Park Hotel on Flockton Street, I wasn’t expecting much from a 3-star spot in what’s essentially a suburban Brisbane neighborhood. But you know what? This place actually surprised me in the best possible way. The building itself has this understated charm that doesn’t try too hard, and there’s something refreshing about staying somewhere that feels more like a local secret than a tourist trap.
What really won me over was how the staff seemed to genuinely care about making your stay work. I mean, they actually remembered my name after the first day (rare these days), and when I mentioned I was trying to catch an early train into the city, they pointed me toward the exact bus stop I needed – not just “public transport is nearby” but actual helpful directions. The rooms are clean and comfortable without being fancy, which honestly is exactly what I wanted. The bed was proper comfortable, the shower had decent water pressure, and the air conditioning worked without sounding like a jet engine. Sometimes that’s all you need, right? I stayed during a particularly muggy February, and the room stayed cool without me having to crank the AC all night.
Here’s what I really appreciated – Everton Park isn’t your typical Brisbane tourist area, which means you get to see how actual locals live. There’s a solid shopping center just a few minutes’ walk away (Brook side Shopping Centre), and I found myself grabbing coffee there most mornings because it felt more authentic than hotel breakfast. The area gets quiet at night, which was perfect for sleeping, but you’re still only about 15 minutes from the city center when you want to dive into Brisbane proper. Parking was surprisingly easy – no circling the block or paying ridiculous fees like you’d get closer to the CBD. The hotel sits in this sweet spot where you feel like you’re experiencing real Brisbane life without being completely cut off from everything. That 8.2 rating makes total sense to me because while it’s not trying to be the fanciest place in town, it absolutely nails what it’s going for. If you want somewhere genuine, comfortable, and well-run without the tourist markup, this is your spot.

What could be improved: There was only a room Nothing else. Nobody. A note in the room to tell us no one would be there. No facilities. No food available. And no warning before we arrived Christmas Eve.
Booking.com did not advise us either. They said they were renovating. Not that it would be closed.
Room rate was quite expensive I thought for the circumstances.
We have stayed there before and were happy.
Enjoyed Next door to Woolworths and cafe. Loved the free Taxi ride from airport.
