When I first pulled up to 724 Old Cleveland Road, I wasn’t expecting much from a 3-star spot, but there’s something genuinely welcoming about this place that caught me off guard. The building itself has this unpretentious charm, and you know what? Sometimes that’s exactly what you need when you’re just looking for a solid place to crash without all the fancy nonsense.

The location is actually pretty clever if you know Brisbane at all. Camp Hill might not be the flashiest suburb, but it’s got this residential feel that makes you feel like you’re staying somewhere real people live, not just another tourist trap. You’re close enough to get into the city without dealing with all the CBD chaos and pricing – honestly, the bus connections along Old Cleveland Road are pretty decent, and if you’ve got a car, you’ll appreciate that parking isn’t the nightmare it can be closer to town. I mean, you can actually find a decent coffee shop within walking distance (there’s this little place around the corner that does a proper flat white), and the Coles is right there when you realize you forgot to pack something essential.

What really sold me on this place was the staff – they actually seem to give a damn, which is rarer than it should be these days. Check-in was smooth, no weird upselling attempts, and when I had a question about getting to South Bank, the guy at the front desk gave me actual useful advice instead of just pointing at a tourist brochure. The rooms are clean and functional – nothing fancy, but the bed was comfortable enough that I didn’t wake up feeling like I’d been hit by a truck. The bathroom was small but everything worked properly, and honestly, after staying at some places where you’re not sure if the shower will actually produce hot water, that’s not nothing. Sure, the carpet’s seen better days and the décor isn’t going to win any design awards, but everything feels well-maintained rather than run-down.

During my stay, it was pretty quiet even though Old Cleveland Road can get busy during rush hour, so they’ve clearly put some thought into soundproofing. The Wi-Fi actually worked without me having to call the front desk three times, which automatically puts it ahead of about half the places I’ve stayed. If you’re looking for a pool or fancy restaurant, you’ll need to look elsewhere, but if you want a clean, comfortable base for exploring Brisbane without breaking the bank, this place does the job well.
