But honestly, stepping out of that elevator onto the 56th floor changed my tune pretty quickly. The view hits you immediately, and I mean really hits you – you’re looking out over the Brisbane River, South Bank, and on clear days you can actually see the Glass House Mountains in the distance. It’s the kind of view that makes you forget you’re in a hotel room.

What actually impressed me though was how they’ve handled the practical stuff. The free parking is legit (and trust me, finding parking in the CBD normally costs a fortune), plus it’s right there in the building – no walking three blocks in Brisbane’s summer heat. The rooms themselves are well thought out, not just pretty. The blackout curtains actually work, which you’ll appreciate when the sun comes streaming in from the east, and the air conditioning is quiet enough that you won’t hear it cycling on and off all night. I stayed during the week and it was perfectly quiet, though I imagine weekends might get a bit livelier with the nightlife scene picking up around Adelaide Street.

The location is honestly perfect if you want to be in the thick of things without the tourist trap feel. You’re literally a five-minute walk to Queen Street Mall, but you know what? You’re also close to the better local spots – there’s a fantastic coffee place called Blackbird Bar + Grill just around the corner that locals actually go to, and you can walk to the Botanic Gardens along the river in about ten minutes. The CityCat ferry terminal at North Quay is close enough that you can easily get over to South Bank or even out to places like New Farm without dealing with traffic. I mean, the whole setup just works – you feel like you’re staying somewhere special (that view never gets old), but you’re not trapped in some isolated tower. The staff genuinely seem to know the city too, which is rarer than you’d think. When I asked about getting to the airport early in the morning, they had three different options ready and knew the timing for each. Little things like that make the difference between a good stay and one you’ll actually remember.
