Milton can get a bit noisy with all the construction and traffic heading toward the city, but once you’re inside, it’s actually pretty peaceful. The beds are proper comfortable too – none of that rock-hard hotel mattress nonsense.

What really sold me on the place though was how well-positioned it is for getting around Brisbane without feeling like you’re stuck in the tourist bubble. You’re about a fifteen-minute walk to Suncorp Stadium if you’re catching a game, and the train station’s close enough that you can easily zip into the CBD or out to the suburbs. But here’s the local knowledge bit – if you’re driving, Park Road can be a bit of a pain during peak hours, so factor that in. The staff actually warned me about this during check-in, which I thought was pretty thoughtful. They seemed to know their stuff about the neighborhood, could recommend spots that weren’t just the obvious tourist traps. There’s this great little coffee place called Brew just down the street that they pointed me toward – honestly better than most of the overpriced stuff you’ll find in the city center. The whole Milton area is sort of having a moment right now, with new restaurants and bars opening up regularly, so there’s always something to check out within walking distance. I stayed here during a particularly busy weekend when half of Brisbane seemed to be in town for some rugby match, and while the hotel was full, it never felt chaotic or overwhelmed. The elevators worked fine, check-in was smooth, and – this might sound minor but it matters – the wifi actually worked properly throughout the building. Sometimes it’s the basic stuff that makes or breaks a stay, you know?
