So I ended up staying at this one-bedroom unit on Moorgate Street in Macgregor, and honestly? It’s one of those places that grows on you. The name’s a bit clunky – “1 Bedroom Unit near Highway Transports n Shops” – but they’re not wrong about the location. You’re literally a stone’s throw from the Pacific Motorway, which sounds terrible until you realize how ridiculously easy it makes getting anywhere in Brisbane. I mean, the city’s about 20 minutes north, the Gold Coast is maybe 45 minutes south, and you’ve got that whole stretch of Logan Road right there with everything you actually need.
The unit itself is pretty straightforward – clean, functional, nothing fancy but everything works. What I really appreciated was how quiet it actually stays despite being so close to the highway. The bedroom faces away from the main road, so you get decent sleep even with trucks passing by. The kitchen’s got all the basics if you’re the type who likes to grab groceries instead of eating out every meal, and there’s this little Woolworths complex just down the road that’s actually pretty decent. The whole Macgregor area has this suburban family vibe – lots of young families, decent parks if you need to stretch your legs, and honestly some surprisingly good coffee spots tucked away in the nearby shopping centers.
Here’s what really sold me on the place though – the parking situation is completely stress-free, which anyone who’s tried to park in Brisbane proper will tell you is worth its weight in gold. Plus, you’ve got multiple bus routes running right through the area, so even if you don’t have a car, you’re not stuck. The Garden City shopping center is maybe 10 minutes away, and that’s where you’ll find your proper restaurants and entertainment if the local stuff isn’t cutting it. The whole setup works especially well if you’re in town for business or visiting family in the southern suburbs – you’re positioned perfectly without paying those inner-city accommodation prices. It’s not going to win any design awards, and the 7.2 rating feels about right (solid but not spectacular), but sometimes you just want a place that does what it says on the tin. The value for money here is actually pretty decent, especially during peak seasons when everywhere else is gouging you.
