Bardon Oasis-Whole House & great deck to yourself
Look, I wasn't expecting much when I pulled up to this place in Bardon – honestly, the whole "Bardon Oasis" name had me a bit skeptical.
Look, I wasn’t expecting much when I pulled up to this place in Bardon – honestly, the whole “Bardon Oasis” name had me a bit skeptical. But you know what? Sometimes the best discoveries are the ones that catch you off guard. This isn’t your typical hotel situation at all; it’s actually an entire house that you get to yourself, which means no awkward elevator small talk or fighting over the breakfast buffet.
The first thing that hits you is that deck – and I mean hits you in the best way possible. It’s massive and faces west, so if you’re into those golden hour vibes with a drink in hand, you’re sorted. The house itself has this relaxed, lived-in feel that’s way more comfortable than sterile hotel rooms. I mean, there’s actual personality here – mismatched furniture that somehow works, a kitchen where you can actually cook (novel concept, right?), and enough space to spread out your stuff without living out of a suitcase. The bedrooms are nothing fancy, but they’re clean and the beds are decent enough that you won’t wake up feeling like you wrestled a kangaroo all night.
What really works about this place is the location – Bardon’s one of those Brisbane suburbs that feels residential but isn’t boring. You’re about fifteen minutes from the city center, which is perfect because you can duck into town for dinner or drinks without the hassle of staying right in the thick of things. There’s actually a decent coffee spot just down the hill on Given Terrace, and if you’re feeling ambitious, the walk to Paddington’s antique shops is pretty manageable. Parking’s never an issue here either – something anyone who’s driven around inner Brisbane will appreciate. The neighborhood gets quiet at night, which means you can actually sleep with the windows open and just hear the occasional possum having a domestic dispute on the roof.
Is it perfect? Well, the hot water takes a minute to get going, and the Wi-Fi can be a bit patchy if you’re trying to work from the back bedroom. But honestly, for the price point and the fact that you get an entire house to yourself, these are pretty minor gripes. The host left some basics in the fridge and actually responded to messages without making me feel like I was bothering them – which, let’s be real, doesn’t always happen with these kinds of places. If you’re traveling with friends or family and want somewhere that feels more like staying at someone’s house than a hotel, this hits the mark. Just don’t expect luxury – think comfortable, practical, and genuinely relaxing instead.
