I’ll be honest, when I first walked up to the Adina on Ann Street, I wasn’t expecting much – it’s tucked into this busy corner of the CBD and from the outside, it looks like just another office building. But step inside and you realize this place actually gets apartment-style hotels right, which is saying something because most of them feel like corporate housing with fancy lobby art.
The thing that struck me first was how quiet it gets once you’re up in the rooms, even though you’re literally in the thick of everything. I mean, you’re a two-minute walk from Central Station (which is clutch if you’re doing day trips to the Gold Coast or just trying to get to the airport without dealing with Brisbane traffic), and honestly, I could see the Anzac Square memorial from my window. The apartments themselves feel lived-in rather than hotel-sterile – full kitchens with actual sharp knives, washing machines that don’t eat your clothes, and couches you’d actually want to sprawl on after a long day walking around South Bank. The staff seems to know that business travelers and families need different things, so they don’t hover but they’re there when you need them. I watched them help this family with three kids get sorted with extra pillows and local restaurant recommendations without making it feel like a big production.
What really sold me on this place was the little details that show someone’s actually thinking about how people use hotels. The wifi doesn’t cut out when you’re trying to work from the dining table, there’s decent water pressure in the shower (you’d be surprised how many Brisbane hotels mess this up), and they stock the kitchen with basics so you’re not immediately running to the Woolworths on Queen Street for salt and coffee. The gym’s small but functional – a few good machines and some weights, nothing fancy but it does the job if you need to burn off energy. Location-wise, you’re close enough to walk to the river for morning runs, but far enough from the Friday night chaos on Eagle Street that you can actually sleep. The building’s got that solid, settled feel that some of the flashier new hotels in the CBD lack, and parking’s available in the building which – trust me – is worth its weight in gold when you’re trying to navigate Brisbane’s one-way street maze. I’ve stayed here a few times now for work trips, and it’s become my go-to because it just works without trying too hard to impress you.
