1 BR Apartment in Queens Wharf

Look, I'll be straight with you about this one-bedroom spot on Margaret Street – it's honestly one of those places that grows on you the longer you stay.

Look, I’ll be straight with you about this one-bedroom spot on Margaret Street – it’s honestly one of those places that grows on you the longer you stay. When I first walked up, I wasn’t expecting much from the exterior (Queens Wharf has some gorgeous buildings, but this isn’t trying to be flashy), but once you’re inside, you realize the real draw here is the location and the fact that you’re getting actual apartment living right in the heart of Brisbane’s CBD.

The apartment itself is pretty solid for what you’re paying – nothing fancy, but everything works and there’s enough space to actually unpack your suitcase instead of living out of it for a week. What really got me was stepping out onto Margaret Street in the morning and realizing you’re literally a two-minute walk from the Botanical Gardens and maybe five minutes from Eagle Street Pier if you want decent coffee and river views. I mean, you’re also right there where all the CityCat action happens, so getting around Brisbane becomes ridiculously easy. The Queen Street Mall is close enough that you’ll probably end up there more than you planned, and honestly, having South Bank just across the Victoria Bridge means you can walk to some of the city’s best spots without thinking twice about transport.

Here’s what I actually appreciated – the building’s quiet enough that you’re not dealing with party noise (though you will hear some street sounds, it’s the CBD after all), and the whole setup feels more like you’re living in Brisbane rather than just visiting it. The kitchen’s functional enough for actual cooking, which is clutch when you’re staying more than a few days and getting tired of eating out. Parking can be a bit of a dance around here – there’s paid street parking, but honestly, with the train station so close and the city being walkable, you might not even need a car depending on what you’re doing. Check-in was straightforward, no drama there. The 7.5 rating makes sense to me – it’s not going to blow your mind with luxury touches, but it delivers on the basics and that location really can’t be beat. If you’re someone who’d rather spend your money on experiences than fancy hotel amenities, and you want to feel like you’re actually staying in Brisbane rather than some generic hotel bubble, this place does the job really well.

Below average, not worth the money Location was great

What could be improved: Where to start. The directions were not clear. We booked not realising it as a privately owned apartment. Arrived to check in at 2:30, no booking. Find a link that tells me I need of pick up a key from a block away, go there, key not able to be picked up before 3pm. Wait. Pick up key at 3:01, walk back to building. Nice building but appears to still mostly be still under construction. 8 elevators and only 4 appeared to operate. The wait time to get on one was no less than 20 minutes each time. Elevators were constantly full of tradesman, furniture deliveries, tools, white goods, you name it. Not to mention there wasn’t even proper walls on the elevator, just plastic sheets and a back wall if you’re lucky. We finally got of our room, key didn’t work. We read the key and see that it’s for a room two levels up. Wait for elevator for 15 minutes to go two levels up. Enter new room only to be told by host that they had given us the wrong key and to exit the room and wait in foyer for the correct key. By this point we had been stuffing around for an hour just sorting rooms and elevators, making us late to the function we had planned (reason for travel).
Finally get to our room. Bed is tiny and hard and clearly just a cheap IKEA set up. Nice room but definitely not worth the money at all. Doesn’t include parking or supply options for parking as well so had to park two blocks away at pay $60 per night.
All we were offered was a “I’ll bring the key to lobby for you so you don’t need to walk back to pick up location” even though it was not our fault. Also, straight after this, they sent a reminder to check out on time at 10am
