You know what? The Windsor totally surprised me. I’ll be honest – driving up Lutwyche Road, I wasn’t expecting much from this stretch of Brisbane. It’s not exactly the glossy South Bank area tourists usually flock to, but that’s actually what makes this place work. The building itself has this solid, no-nonsense charm that grows on you, and once you’re inside, you realize they’ve put real thought into making it feel like more than just another hotel.

The rooms are genuinely spacious – I mean, you can actually walk around the bed without doing that awkward sideways shuffle. The apartment-style options are where they really shine though. Having a proper kitchenette changes everything when you’re staying more than a couple nights, and the little touches like decent coffee (not those sad instant packets) and actual glassware make you feel less like you’re camping indoors. The beds are firm without being punishing, and honestly, the air conditioning works like a dream – crucial for Brisbane summers. One small thing that bugged me was the bathroom lighting, which is a bit harsh for early morning situations, but that’s pretty minor in the grand scheme of things.

What really sold me on this place was the location, though you have to know Brisbane to appreciate it. You’re basically five minutes from the airport if you’re flying out early, but you’re also perfectly positioned to duck into the city or explore the northern suburbs without dealing with the CBD parking nightmare. There’s a decent coffee shop just down the road – locals actually go there, which is always a good sign – and the staff seemed to know the area well enough to point you toward the good stuff rather than just the obvious tourist traps. The whole Windsor area has this lived-in feel that’s refreshing after dealing with the polished-to-death hotel districts. Plus, you’ll sleep well here – the street’s busy enough during the day but settles down nicely at night, unlike some of those inner-city places where you’re battling sirens and late-night revelers. At an 8.2 rating, it’s hitting that sweet spot where you’re getting solid value without any nasty surprises, and sometimes that’s exactly what you need from a place to crash.
