Sunnybank Star Hotel
Sunnybank Star Hotel

Look, I’ve driven past the Sunnybank Star Hotel on Padstow Road countless times before actually staying there, and honestly? It’s one of those places that looks pretty standard from the outside but surprises you once you’re inside. The location is actually perfect if you know Brisbane’s southside – you’re right in Eight Mile Plains, which means you can hit the motorway to the Gold Coast in about two minutes, or duck into Sunnybank proper for some of the best Asian food in the city. I mean, seriously, you’ve got authentic Vietnamese pho and Korean BBQ places within walking distance that most tourists never find.
The hotel itself has that solid 4-star feel without trying too hard to be fancy. When I checked in, the lobby had this warm, welcoming vibe – not too flashy, but clean and well-maintained. The staff actually seemed to know what they were doing, which is refreshing. My room was on the third floor (there’s a lift, thank god), and you know what struck me? The soundproofing is actually decent. Padstow Road can get busy during peak hours, but I barely noticed the traffic noise. The room itself was spacious enough that I wasn’t tripping over my suitcase every five minutes, and the bed was genuinely comfortable – not too soft, not too firm. The bathroom was modern and had proper water pressure, which honestly makes or breaks a hotel stay for me.
What I really appreciated was the parking situation – it’s free and there’s plenty of it, which is a godsend in Brisbane. The hotel sits in this sort of commercial strip where everything’s spread out, so having your car right there makes a huge difference. If you’re flying in, the airport’s only about 20 minutes away, and if you’re here for business around the southern business districts, you’re perfectly positioned. The area gets pretty quiet at night, which some people love and others might find a bit too sleepy – depends what you’re after, I guess. There’s a decent restaurant attached to the hotel, though I’d honestly recommend venturing out to explore Sunnybank’s food scene if you can. The 7.2 rating seems about right to me – it’s not going to blow your mind, but it’s reliable, comfortable, and the location really works if you’re exploring this part of Brisbane or using it as a base for day trips. The value is solid too, especially compared to staying in the CBD where you’d pay twice as much for a similar room.

What Our Guests Say
Very good Location was near where we wanted to visit relations & shops across the road were handy to get food etc.
What could be improved: That the attached restaurant was now closed. We went there last stay we had and the food was great.
Excellent place for a short stay. Will stay here again. Great, friendly staff, clean room and amenities, very close to public transport.
What could be improved: The rooms could have done with a microwave, and the TV was a bit small.
Enjoyable Location
What could be improved: Nothing
Overall a pleasant stay The position of motel
What could be improved: Light came through window around curtains
quiet, clean, great location for my needs. location
What could be improved: not much.
Convenient, clean and comfortable Large comfortable room with parking outside
What could be improved: Lack of trees/plants in common areas and no microwave in room
Great place. Would definitely stay again Well priced accommodation that worked well for our group. Very clean and great self-catering facilities. Opposite the local shops!
Very good Good facilities in the hotel area, with pool, bbq, microwave (guest laundry area) - rooms had enough space for two people to open out their luggage and move around freely. Location was close to the BTP conference centre (15 mins walk) and there's good local shops across the road
What could be improved: Housekeeping only came around on the first day and we could have done with more toilet paper
Perfect for what we needed it for. Spacious, great value for money!
It was home away from home for a week. The location was great, close to everything we needed even the car mechanic across the road. Was nice and quiet.
What could be improved: The bathroom was a little small and the tap in the bathroom sink was leaking water over the sink & down onto the floor. Sometimes there was a sewage smell in the bathroom.
