Look, I’ll be straight with you about Smart Suites Self Check-in Apartments near Sunnybank Station – it’s one of those places that grows on you once you figure out what it’s actually about. When I first pulled up to the building, I honestly wasn’t sure what to expect from a 3-star self check-in situation, but you know what? Sometimes the no-fuss approach is exactly what you need.
The whole self check-in thing is actually pretty smooth once you get the hang of it – they send you codes and instructions that make sense, which is more than I can say for some places I’ve stayed. What I really appreciated was how quiet it gets at night, even though you’re literally a stone’s throw from the train station. I mean, you can hear the trains if you’re listening for them, but it’s more of a gentle rumble than anything disruptive. The apartments themselves are properly set up for people who want to spread out a bit – decent kitchen space, enough room to actually unpack your suitcase instead of living out of it. Nothing fancy, but everything works, and honestly, the beds are more comfortable than you’d expect for this price point.
Here’s the thing about staying in Sunnybank though – you’re in the heart of Brisbane’s Asian quarter, and that’s where this place really shines. Step outside and you’re surrounded by some of the best Vietnamese pho joints and Chinese restaurants this side of the Pacific. There’s this little bakery about three minutes’ walk away that does incredible pork buns, and the weekend markets nearby are absolutely worth getting up early for. The train station right there connects you to the city center in about 20 minutes, which is clutch if you’re doing the tourist thing but want to stay somewhere that feels more like real Brisbane. Parking can be a bit tight during peak hours – I learned that the hard way – but there’s usually something available if you’re willing to walk a block or two. The whole area gets pretty lively on Friday and Saturday nights, but in a good way, not in a “people yelling in the streets at 2 AM” way. I’d definitely stay here again, especially if I was traveling with someone who appreciates having actual counter space to make coffee in the morning instead of those tiny hotel setups that barely fit a cup.
