Regatta Hideaway – A Breezy Balcony Residence
You know what really struck me about the Regatta Hideaway when I first walked in?
You know what really struck me about the Regatta Hideaway when I first walked in? It’s that perfect balance between feeling like you’re in a proper hotel but also somehow in someone’s really well-appointed apartment. The place sits in Toowong – and if you don’t know Brisbane well, that’s actually a brilliant spot because you’re close enough to the city that you can catch the ferry from the nearby terminal, but far enough out that you’re not dealing with all the Queen Street Mall chaos.
The balcony situation here is honestly the main event. I mean, the name gives it away, but when they say “breezy,” they’re not kidding around. There’s something about the way the afternoon wind catches the space that makes you want to just sit there with a coffee (or let’s be real, a beer) and watch the river traffic. The rooms themselves are spacious in that way that makes you realize how cramped most hotel rooms actually are – you can actually spread out your stuff without everything ending up on the floor. The kitchen setup is proper too, not one of those sad little kitchenettes with a broken microwave. I actually cooked breakfast a couple times, which is saying something because I usually can’t be bothered when I’m traveling.
What I really appreciate is how the staff seem to know the area inside and out. When I asked about getting to South Bank without dealing with the bridge traffic, the guy at the front desk immediately suggested the CityCat route and even mentioned which stop to get off at depending on whether I wanted the markets or the cultural precinct. That’s the kind of local knowledge you just can’t google. The neighborhood itself has this lived-in feel – there’s a decent bottle shop around the corner, a couple of cafes that locals actually use (not just tourist spots), and honestly, the sound level is just right. You get a bit of city hum but none of that 3am-drunk-people-yelling nonsense.
Parking was surprisingly painless, which – if you’ve ever tried to park anywhere in Brisbane’s inner suburbs – you’ll know is basically a miracle. Check-in was smooth, though I’d say if you’re arriving during peak hour on a weekday, give yourself a few extra minutes because the area does get a bit congested. The whole place has this understated quality that I really liked. It’s not trying too hard to be boutique-y or trendy, but it’s definitely a step up from your standard business hotel. At 8.5 out of 10, I’d say that’s about right – it does what it promises really well, and the location gives you options without feeling like you’re stuck in a tourist bubble. If you’re the type who wants to actually experience Brisbane rather than just tick off the major sights, this is a solid base.

What Our Guests Say
The location was great, however, lots of noise coming from the road!
The property does suit for family, if everything works.
