I’ll be honest – when I first pulled up to Quest Chermside on Thomas Street, I wasn’t expecting much. The area’s got that typical Brisbane suburban feel, you know? But here’s the thing about this place: it actually gets the balance right between being properly comfortable and not trying too hard to be fancy. The lobby’s clean and modern without that sterile chain hotel vibe, and the staff at check-in seemed genuinely helpful rather than just going through the motions.

What really struck me was how well they’ve thought about the practical stuff that travelers actually care about. The rooms are spacious – I mean properly spacious, not just “spacious for Australia” – and they’ve got full kitchenettes that you’ll actually want to use. The beds are decent quality (firm but not rock-hard), and honestly, the air conditioning works brilliantly, which matters more than you’d think during a Brisbane summer. Parking’s easy and free, which is a godsend because finding parking around Chermside can be a nightmare, especially near the shopping center. Speaking of which – and this is where the location gets interesting – you’re literally a five-minute walk from Westfield Chermside, which is massive and has everything you need, but the hotel itself sits just far enough away that you don’t get the constant traffic noise and chaos.

The area’s got character too, in that understated Brisbane way. There’s a decent coffee place just around the corner on Gympie Road (locals will know the one), and if you’re into your morning runs, the local streets are surprisingly good for it – quiet, tree-lined, with actual footpaths. The staff mentioned that a lot of their guests are either visiting family in the northern suburbs or using it as a base for exploring the Sunshine Coast, which makes sense because you can hit the highway easily from here. I stayed during a quieter period in autumn, so I can’t speak to how busy it gets during school holidays, but the building felt solid enough that noise between rooms wasn’t an issue. The 8.4 rating feels about right – it’s not going to blow your mind, but it delivers on what it promises without any unpleasant surprises, and sometimes that’s exactly what you want.
