So I’ve stayed at the Queen Windsor Isyd a handful of times now, and honestly? It’s become my go-to whenever I’m in Brisbane and want something that feels a bit more grown-up than the usual chain hotels. The thing is, Windsor itself is this lovely little pocket that most tourists completely miss – it’s about 4km north of the CBD, tucked away in these tree-lined streets that actually feel like a proper neighborhood rather than tourist central.

The hotel sits on Lutwyche Road, which I know sounds like it might be busy, but it’s actually pretty quiet once you’re inside. They’ve done something clever with the building positioning. What really got me the first time was walking into the lobby – there’s this warm, sort of understated elegance that doesn’t try too hard, you know? The staff actually remember your name after a day or two, which is refreshing. I mean, it’s not a massive place, so that helps, but still. Check-in is usually smooth, though I’d avoid arriving around 6pm on Sundays when they seem to get slammed with business travelers.

You’re literally a two-minute walk from the Windsor train station, which is brilliant if you don’t want to deal with Brisbane parking (and trust me, you don’t). The Newmarket shops are right there too – not fancy, but perfect for grabbing coffee or picking up things you forgot. What I love is that you can actually walk to Breakfast Creek in about ten minutes, and if you haven’t done the riverside walk there, you’re missing out. The rooms themselves are well… they’re proper hotel rooms, not trying to be apartments or anything trendy. Good beds – I’m picky about mattresses and these work for me. The bathrooms are recently renovated, decent water pressure, and they’ve got that slightly steamy mirror thing that makes you feel like you’re somewhere more expensive than you are.

The breakfast room gets morning light that makes everything look better, and they do a solid cooked breakfast if you’re not in a rush. Actually, the whole pace here is a bit more relaxed than downtown – you’re not fighting crowds to get your coffee or waiting ages for elevators. I’ve brought my parents here when they visit because it’s got that comfortable, unfussy vibe that works for people who want nice without the pretense. Plus, honestly, the value is pretty good for what you get. It’s not trying to be the flashiest place in Brisbane, but sometimes that’s exactly what you want – somewhere that just does the basics really well and lets you get on with why you’re actually in town.
