You know what caught me off guard about Oxygen Apartments? The name actually makes sense once you’re there – and I mean that in the best way possible. Walking into this place on Leichhardt Street, there’s this immediate sense of space and light that honestly feels like a breath of fresh air after some of the cramped hotel rooms I’ve stayed in around Brisbane.

The location is pretty solid – Spring Hill isn’t exactly the heart of the action, but that’s actually why I liked it. You’re close enough to walk into the city (maybe 15-20 minutes if you don’t mind the gentle slope), but far enough out that you’re not dealing with the Friday night chaos from the Queen Street Mall crowd. There’s a decent coffee spot just around the corner on Boundary Street, and if you’re into that whole farmers market thing, the Jan Powers markets at Roma Street aren’t too far. The apartments themselves feel more like, well, actual apartments than hotel rooms trying to be apartments. I mean, you’ve got proper kitchen facilities – not just a mini-fridge and a kettle, but actual counter space where you can spread out if you’re staying for more than a couple nights. The furniture doesn’t have that generic hotel feel either; someone actually put thought into making these spaces livable rather than just Instagram-worthy.

What really impressed me was how quiet it stays, even being on a main street. I was expecting traffic noise, but the windows must be decent quality because I slept through the night without issues. The staff at check-in were refreshingly normal – not overly scripted, just helpful people who knew the area well enough to give you actual directions rather than just pointing vaguely toward the city. Parking can be a bit of a puzzle (welcome to inner Brisbane, honestly), but they’ve got arrangements that work if you ask about it upfront. The whole setup feels like it’s designed for people who are actually living there temporarily, not just passing through for a night. Whether you’re in town for work or taking your time exploring Brisbane without the tourist trap prices, this place gets the balance right between having space to breathe and being close enough to everything that matters. It’s not trying to be the fanciest place in town, but sometimes that’s exactly what you want – somewhere that just works well and lets you focus on why you came to Brisbane in the first place.
