You know what struck me first about the Oaks Brisbane Lexicon Suites?
You know what struck me first about the Oaks Brisbane Lexicon Suites? The lobby actually feels like a lobby, not some sterile corporate waiting room. I mean, it’s modern and sleek, but there’s something approachable about it – maybe it’s the way the light hits those floor-to-ceiling windows, or how the staff doesn’t hover over you with that forced hospitality thing.
The location on Ann Street is honestly perfect if you want to be in the thick of Brisbane without dealing with the Queen Street Mall chaos. You’re literally a three-minute walk to Central Station (I timed it because I’m neurotic like that), and here’s something most people don’t realize – you can cut through the underground walkways when it’s pouring, which happens more often than Brisbane tourism wants to admit. The Eagle Street Pier is right there too, so you’ve got that whole riverside dining scene at your doorstep. What I loved was being able to walk to places like Gerard’s Bistro or Stokehouse Q without needing an Uber – though honestly, the taxi situation around Ann Street can be a bit of a nightmare during peak hours.
The suites themselves are where this place really shines. They’re proper suites, not those hotel rooms with a couch shoved in the corner that some places try to pass off. Full kitchens with decent appliances – I actually cooked breakfast a few times instead of paying $30 for hotel eggs. The washing machine situation is a game-changer if you’re staying more than a couple nights, and the balconies (well, most rooms have them) give you these surprisingly good city views. I was on the 12th floor and could see the river, though the lower floors might just get you a nice view of the building across the street. The beds are firm – like, really firm – which I loved but my partner complained about, so there’s that. One thing that surprised me was how quiet it stays at night, considering you’re right in the CBD. I was expecting traffic noise but barely heard anything with the windows closed.
The whole place has this lived-in quality that a lot of newer hotels miss. It’s not trying too hard to be trendy, but it’s not stuck in some beige corporate time warp either. The pool area is small but actually usable – I saw families up there having a proper swim, not just posing for Instagram. And the gym is one of those rare hotel gyms where you can actually get a decent workout without fighting over the one working treadmill. Check-in was smooth, though I’d avoid arriving around 3 PM when the business crowd seems to descend all at once. The staff genuinely seems to know Brisbane – they pointed me toward this little coffee spot on Edward Street that I never would have found otherwise, and it ended up being my daily ritual. For a four-star place, it punches above its weight without the pretension you sometimes get at this level.
