Mercure Brisbane King George Square
Mercure Brisbane King George Square
You know what struck me first about the Mercure Brisbane King George Square?
You know what struck me first about the Mercure Brisbane King George Square? The lobby actually feels like Brisbane – not some generic international hotel space that could be anywhere. Walking in from the corner of Ann and Roma, you’re hit with this warm, earthy color scheme that somehow makes the place feel both professional and approachable. I mean, it’s definitely a business hotel at heart, but they’ve managed to avoid that sterile corporate vibe that makes you want to immediately escape to your room.
The location is honestly pretty brilliant if you know Brisbane at all. You’re literally steps from King George Square (hence the name), which means you can grab coffee from any of the little cafes around there, or if you’re feeling fancy, wander over to Queen Street Mall without breaking a sweat. What I really appreciated was how easy it was to get around – Roma Street Station is right there, so if you need to hit the Gold Coast or head to the airport, you’re sorted. The parking situation is… well, it’s Brisbane CBD, so expect to pay, but at least they have valet service so you don’t have to circle the block looking for a spot like some kind of urban vulture.
The rooms themselves are what you’d expect from a solid 4-star place – clean, comfortable, with those big windows that actually open (thank god, because sometimes you just need real air, not recycled hotel atmosphere). The beds are genuinely comfortable, though I did notice the walls aren’t exactly soundproof – you might hear your neighbors if they’re having a particularly animated phone call. But honestly, for a CBD hotel, the noise levels are pretty reasonable. The real winner is the view from the higher floors – you can see out over the city toward the river, and at sunset, it’s actually quite lovely. The staff seem to know their stuff too, which is refreshing. When I asked about getting to South Bank, the concierge didn’t just point vaguely toward the door – they gave me specific walking directions and mentioned which bridge has the best views along the way. These are the little touches that separate a decent stay from a memorable one, you know?
Look, it’s not going to blow your mind or become the highlight of your Brisbane trip, but the Mercure King George Square does exactly what it promises – puts you in the heart of the city with comfortable rooms and service that doesn’t make you feel like you’re bothering them by existing. The 7.4 rating feels about right; it’s solid, reliable, and well-positioned for exploring Brisbane properly. If you’re here for business meetings around the CBD or want easy access to everything Brisbane has to offer without the tourist-trap pricing of some flashier places, this is actually a smart choice.
