You know what caught me off guard about the Kingsford Smith Motel? The name makes it sound like some basic roadside stop, but honestly, this place punches way above its weight class. I mean, we’re talking about a 4-star spot right on Kingsford Smith Drive in Hamilton – and if you know Brisbane at all, you’ll appreciate that this puts you smack in the middle of everything without the insane CBD prices.

The location is actually brilliant once you get your bearings. You’re literally a stone’s throw from the Hamilton Reach boardwalk, which I discovered completely by accident on my second morning when I went for a coffee run. There’s this whole strip of decent cafes and restaurants that locals seem to frequent – not touristy at all, just real Brisbane life happening. The drive into the city takes maybe 10 minutes on a good day, 20 when the traffic’s being typical Brisbane traffic. What I really appreciated was the parking situation (free and actually spacious – revolutionary concept, right?), plus you’re close enough to Portside Wharf that you can walk over for dinner without dealing with rideshare surge pricing.

The rooms themselves feel refreshingly honest – clean, comfortable, well-maintained without trying too hard to be Instagram-worthy. The beds are properly firm, which my back thanked me for, and the air conditioning actually works effectively, something you definitely want during those sticky Brisbane summers. I stayed during a particularly humid week in February, and the room stayed cool without sounding like a jet engine was running all night. The staff at check-in were genuinely helpful too – not that overly cheerful hospitality robot thing, just real people who knew their stuff and could give you actual directions to places. One guy at the front desk steered me away from the tourist trap markets and toward the Saturday morning Powerhouse Markets instead, which turned out to be fantastic advice. The 8.9 rating makes complete sense when you add it all up – it’s not trying to be the fanciest place in Brisbane, but it absolutely nails the fundamentals while giving you legitimate value for money. Sometimes that’s exactly what you need.
