Hotel Diana South Brisbane
Hotel Diana South Brisbane
I'll be honest - when I first walked up to Hotel Diana on Water Street, I wasn't expecting much from the exterior.
I’ll be honest – when I first walked up to Hotel Diana on Water Street, I wasn’t expecting much from the exterior. It’s got that solid, no-nonsense Brisbane brick look that doesn’t scream luxury, but you know what? That actually works in its favor. The location is what really gets you though – you’re literally a two-minute walk from the Cultural Centre busway station, which means you can be in the city center in about five minutes without dealing with parking nightmare. And speaking of parking, they’ve got it sorted with their own garage, which is honestly a godsend in this part of town.
The thing about staying here is that you’re right in the thick of South Brisbane without the tourist trap feeling. I mean, you’ve got the Queensland Museum practically next door, and QPAC (that’s the performing arts center for anyone not from around here) is close enough that you can literally walk over for a show and be back in your room within minutes. The rooms themselves are actually pretty decent for a 4-star – nothing fancy, but they’re clean, the beds are comfortable, and the air conditioning works properly, which is crucial during Brisbane summers. The staff seem to genuinely know the area too, not just the standard tourist recommendations. They pointed me toward this little coffee spot on Grey Street that I never would have found otherwise.
What I really appreciated was how quiet it stays despite being so central. You’d think with all the cultural precinct action happening around you, it’d be noisy, but the rooms are well-insulated. The only time I really heard anything was during the weekend when people were heading to the restaurants along the river – but even then, it was more of a gentle buzz than actual noise. The whole South Bank area has this interesting vibe where it feels urban but still relaxed, especially if you walk down to the river in the evening. From the hotel, you can easily stroll over to the Wheel of Brisbane or just grab dinner at one of those riverside places without needing to plan transportation. Honestly, that 8.2 rating seems about right – it’s not going to blow your mind with luxury, but it delivers on the basics really well and the location is genuinely hard to beat if you want to experience Brisbane properly without staying in some generic city tower.
