So I stumbled across this place on Wickham Street while hunting for somewhere decent to crash in Fortitude Valley, and honestly? The Heart of the Valley apartment turned out to be one of those pleasant surprises you don’t expect from a 3-star spot. I mean, the name sounds a bit cheesy, but the location is absolutely bang-on – you’re literally in the thick of everything without being right on top of the club strip where things get properly mental on weekends.
The apartment itself feels way more spacious than most Brisbane places I’ve stayed in, and I actually appreciated that it doesn’t try too hard to be fancy. The two bedrooms are legit separate rooms (not those weird split-level things), and the kitchen’s got everything you need if you’re planning to cook rather than blow your budget on Valley restaurants every night. What really got me was the little touches – decent coffee setup, proper blackout curtains (trust me, you’ll need them after a night out), and the kind of shower pressure that actually works. The building’s got that modern Brisbane apartment vibe, sort of industrial-chic but not pretentious about it. Check-in was surprisingly smooth too, though I’d definitely recommend confirming parking beforehand because street parking around there can be a bit of a nightmare, especially during festival season.
Here’s what I really love about this spot – you can walk to pretty much everything that matters in the Valley. Chinatown’s literally around the corner, so you’ve got amazing late-night pho options, and you’re close enough to the train station that getting into the city or out to the airport is dead easy. But here’s the thing locals know: Wickham Street sits just far enough from the main Brunswick Street chaos that you can actually sleep at night. I stayed during Bigsound week (which is absolutely insane in the Valley) and while you could hear the distant thrum of music, it wasn’t keeping me awake. The neighborhood’s got that perfect mix of residential and commercial – there’s a decent cafe downstairs for morning coffee, and you’re walking distance to both the fancy cocktail bars and the no-frills pubs depending on your mood. The 8.4 rating makes total sense to me because it’s not trying to be a luxury experience, but it nails all the practical stuff that matters when you’re actually living somewhere for a few days. If you’re planning to explore Brisbane properly and want a real base rather than just a hotel room, this place gets it right.
