You know what struck me first about FV by Peppers? It’s actually got this cool industrial-chic thing going on that feels right at home in the Valley – I mean, this is Brisbane’s nightlife district after all, so you want something with a bit of edge. The building sits right on Brunswick Street, which honestly can get pretty lively on weekends (fair warning if you’re a light sleeper), but that’s kind of the point of staying here, isn’t it?

The thing about this place is it really gets the whole boutique hotel concept right. Sure, it’s got that 5-star rating, but it doesn’t feel stuffy or overly formal like some of those big chain hotels. The rooms have this really nice balance – modern without being cold, if that makes sense. I loved the floor-to-ceiling windows in my room; you get these great views of either the city skyline or the Valley’s street art scene, depending on which side you’re facing. The bathrooms are honestly impressive too, with rainfall showers that actually have decent water pressure (you’d be surprised how many fancy hotels mess this up).

What really sold me on this place though is how it sits in the neighborhood. You’re literally a two-minute walk from all the best bars and restaurants the Valley has to offer – Greaser Bar is practically next door, and you can easily stroll to Gerard’s Bistro or Flour & Chocolate without breaking a sweat. But here’s the thing locals know: if you walk just five minutes toward the river, you hit New Farm Park, which is perfect for morning runs or just escaping the urban buzz. The hotel staff actually gave me some great tips about the area too – they suggested hitting up the Saturday markets at New Farm, which I probably wouldn’t have discovered otherwise.

Look, I’ll be honest, the 7.5 rating seems about right. It’s not perfect – the gym is pretty small, and parking can be a bit of a hassle (though they do have valet service). But what you’re paying for here is location and style, and on both counts, FV delivers. The restaurant downstairs serves decent modern Australian food, though I found myself eating out in the neighborhood most nights because, well, when you’re in Fortitude Valley, why wouldn’t you? Check-in was smooth, the concierge knew their stuff, and the whole place just has this relaxed but sophisticated vibe that makes you feel like you’re staying somewhere that actually belongs in this part of Brisbane, rather than some generic box that could be anywhere in the world.
