So I stumbled across this studio apartment at 127 Charlotte Street, and honestly? It’s one of those finds that makes you feel like you’ve cracked the code on staying in Brisbane’s CBD without breaking the bank. The name’s a bit of a mouthful – Central CBD Studio, Balcony, Pool, Gym, Sauna – but they’re basically just telling you exactly what you get, which I actually appreciate.
The location is pretty sweet if you know Brisbane at all. Charlotte Street puts you right in the thick of things, but it’s not on one of those crazy busy streets like Queen or Adelaide where you’re hearing traffic all night. You’re literally a two-minute walk from the Queen Street Mall, and I mean actually two minutes, not that “short walk” nonsense hotels usually throw around. The botanical gardens are just across the river if you want to escape the concrete jungle for a bit, and you know what? That balcony they mention actually makes a difference when you want your morning coffee without heading downstairs to some overpriced café.
The studio itself is well… it’s a studio, so don’t expect a sprawling suite, but they’ve made good use of the space. The balcony isn’t huge, but it’s big enough for a chair and your laptop if you’re one of those people who needs to work (aren’t we all?). What really sold me on this place though was the building’s facilities – the pool area is actually decent, not just some tiny splash zone they stuck in to tick a box. The gym is pretty well-equipped for a hotel setup, and the sauna is honestly a game-changer after walking around Brisbane in the summer heat. I mean, it gets properly sticky here from November through March, so having that option is clutch.
Parking can be a bit of a dance in this part of the city – there’s paid street parking, but honestly, if you’re staying right in the CBD, you’re probably better off just using the public transport or walking everywhere anyway. The building itself is pretty quiet considering where it sits, though you might catch some weekend noise from the mall area if you’re a really light sleeper. Check-in was straightforward, none of that awkward hanging around the lobby stuff you sometimes get with apartment-style places.
The whole setup works really well if you’re in town for business or just want to be in the center of everything without paying those ridiculous rates the big chain hotels charge for basically the same location. You’ve got Woolworths practically next door for groceries, plenty of decent restaurants within walking distance (the Asian food scene around here is actually pretty solid), and you can easily walk to South Bank when you want to feel like you’re somewhere a bit more scenic. It’s not luxury, but it’s smart – clean, functional, and positioned exactly where you want to be in Brisbane.
