You know what struck me first about this place?
You know what struck me first about this place? The name is absolutely terrible – I mean, “54Q Abnb-style Apt” sounds like someone mashed their keyboard – but honestly, once you’re inside, you completely forget about that marketing disaster. This two-bedroom apartment on Hercules Street is actually a gem, and I’m sort of glad it doesn’t have some flashy name that would probably drive up the prices.
The location is what really sells it for me. You’re literally across from this gorgeous park where kids are always playing (which is either charming or slightly noisy depending on your tolerance for happy shrieking at 7 AM). But here’s the thing – being in Portside means you’re in this weird sweet spot where you feel like you’re away from Brisbane’s chaos, but you can still get into the city center without much fuss. The free parking is clutch because, let’s be real, parking in Brisbane can be a nightmare and expensive as hell. I’ve stayed at places where you’re paying $30 a night just to park your car, so having that sorted is huge.
The apartment itself feels like someone actually lives there, not like those sterile hotel rooms that smell like industrial cleaning products. The two bedrooms are properly sized – I mean, you’re not bumping into walls trying to open your suitcase, and the beds are actually comfortable (you’d be surprised how many places get this basic thing wrong). The kitchen is legit functional too, not just there for show. I made proper breakfasts, which saved me a fortune over the week I was there. The whole place has this lived-in vibe that makes you feel settled pretty quickly, and the afternoon light coming through the windows is really lovely – though if you’re sensitive to morning sun, maybe bring an eye mask because it gets bright early.
What I really appreciated was how quiet it gets at night. Portside isn’t exactly party central, so you’re not dealing with drunk people stumbling around at 2 AM, but you’re also not in the middle of nowhere feeling isolated. There’s a decent coffee shop about a five-minute walk away (though I can’t remember the name – something local, not a chain), and the whole Hamilton area has this nice residential feel where people actually seem to live normal lives instead of just passing through. The 8.5 rating makes sense to me – it’s not trying to be fancy or Instagram-perfect, but everything works properly and you feel comfortable, which is honestly all I want when I’m traveling. The check-in was smooth, the place was clean, and I never had to think about whether something was broken or missing. Sometimes the best recommendation is that a place just doesn’t give you any problems, and this one definitely delivered on that front.

What Our Guests Say
Superb
Positive experience, would stay again. I thought the room was comfortable and up to the standard I would expect for the money we paid.
It had everything we needed in terms of cooking and cleaning items.
The location was amazing! Would highly recommend.
The pool and recreation area was great especially with a young child, he could play out on the fake turf area.
The host was extremely responsive when I messaged him, which was helpful.
What could be improved: The key collection could have been easier, was quite difficult to pick up and drop off with a baby. But was easy enough to find when you read the instructions a few times.
The lock on the door to the balcony was jammed and the host did say they would have someone come to fix it but it didn’t happen over the weekend we were there, it was a heavy door but our 1 year old could lean on it and it opened which was a bit frustrating.
Hotel was great. Could have had coffee but there was a 24/7 cafe downstairs. Found it extremely confusing when searching for the bike at 11.00pm. Then having to walk to hotel.
Hotel reception had no record of us and couldn’t help us with enquires , we did not have any emergency contact numbers.
Average The location.
What could be improved: Wasn’t very clean, TV didn’t work, air conditioner was mouldy, all air cons smelled when turned on, rubbish and food under couch cushions, dust clumps under beds, owner not great to deal with when concerns arose.
Happy to be back, and will be back again Cleanliness
What could be improved: The key lock could be closer 😃
Comfortable and good location but be prepared for unusual checkin Great view of river and location of apartment. Many options for restaurants within a few metres of the apartment.
What could be improved: As this is actually an AirBnB the process to pick up the key was a bit confusing as it was hidden a distance away (just one key, also a bit annoying for a family...) Communication was a little confusing too as I received a message to say thank you for staying, please rate before we were sent check in instructions, making me have a mild panic that the dates were wrong while we were driving to Brisbane. The biggest hindrance was the apartment was not ready upon arrival. Cleaners were still cleaning and told us it would be another ten minutes. The check in was already later than usual at 3pm (most places are 2pm) and we had tickets for nearby events that we needed to race to make in time. The apartment is nice and comfortable but maintenance was lacking, the dishwasher was out of order and several small things could do with upkeep such as dirt behind the main bathroom door, dirty ceiling fans, marks of walls...
Superb This place is the perfect place to stay. It’s close to absolutely everything. There are multiple restaurants downstairs, ice creamery’s, grocery shop, cafes ,bakery, movies, bottle shops. You don’t have to travel to get anything. The views are amazing of the city and it’s right on the river. It’s also just off the highway and right next to eat street. The room was clean and the beds are so comfy.
Will definitely be staying again.
Superb This is a very nice place to stay. The location and overall facilities were good.
What could be improved: Arrangement of picking the key and finding the property.
Superb Location, roominess
What could be improved: No dislikes
A stressful start during check in with unclear communication. The location and amenities are a 10/10. The location was amazing! Everything you need was right there, food, transportation and a big playground too.
What could be improved: It was unclear that I had booked a private air B&B so the reception staff had no idea of my arrival. They could not check us in or offer any assistance during our stay at all. We were left waiting for well over an hour trying to reach the property manager.( after I had arranged earlier check in because of a red eye flight with two children) I honestly thought I had been scammed and it was very stressful. Once they finally answered me and gave instructions to find a lock box, that alone was a James Bond mission. Thankfully it was daylight as it would have been a complete nightmare in the dark. The room was nice but showing signs of wear and tear. The walls had dirty foot prints and the exhaust fans and on top of the air conditioning were covered in thick dust. No coffee, tea or sugar as you would expect as if you had booked through the hotel directly. The location and amenities , like the pool, playground and nearby restaurants are a 10/10 and it’s a stunning place to stay. … once you actually get in the door.
